In 2024, we concluded our report on the seminar “Operation and Maintenance of Technical Monuments” with the hope that a new tradition would be established. As the year 2025 has shown, that wish may well have come true.

This year’s 4th edition of the professional seminar “Operation and Maintenance of Technical Monuments: Modern Methods and History II” took place on October 14–15, 2025, in the premises of the Technical Museum in Brno. The event was organized by the Methodical Centre for Conservation of the Technical Museum in Brno, in cooperation with the Restoration Workshop at the Department of Machine and Industrial Design, VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, and the Metal Working Group of the Conservation-Restoration Commission of the Association of Museums and Galleries of the Czech Republic (AMG).

Unlike previous years, when the presentations focused exclusively on historic vehicles and their operation, this edition also covered the maintenance of technical heritage structures - such as steam and water engines, building constructions, and other preserved mechanical systems. Over the two days, participants delivered a dozen engaging presentations.

The Restoration Workshop was represented in the program by Ing. Lucie Vlčková (The Influence of Motor Fuels on Components of Historic Vehicles), Bc. Daniel Škop (Assessment of the Technical Condition of a Historic Engine), and Ing. Lukáš Kudrna, Ph.D., the workshop’s guarantor and mentor, who also contributed with his own presentation.

An integral part of the event was a technical excursion to the depository of the Technical Museum in Brno - Řečkovice, including transport by the historic Karosa ŠM 11 bus and a guided tour of several unique exhibits - among them the Škoda Sentinel steam wagon, currently under the care of specialists in conservation and restoration.
