On Wednesday, 24 June 2026, the Restoration Workshop at the Department of Machine and Industrial Design, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, VSB–Technical University of Ostrava welcomed two groups of important visitors. First, pupils from the 3rd grade of the Primary and Nursery School Ostrava - Zábřeh visited the workshop, followed by pupils from the 4th grade of the Waldorf Primary and Secondary School in Ostrava - Poruba. The children were accompanied by their class teachers and, in the case of the Waldorf school, by two teaching assistants.
As part of the programme, the pupils attended a presentation introducing the history, mission, and activities of the Restoration Workshop. They also had the opportunity to see several historic motorcycles currently undergoing restoration, including a 1931 BSA 550 Sloper and a ČZ 250 Tourist. To complete the tour, they were shown a fully restored BMW R62 motorcycle. The children were fascinated to learn that the workshop houses motorcycles that are nearly 100 years old, and they were especially surprised to discover that, after restoration, all these machines can once again be ridden.
Considering the age of the visitors, the programme also included a demonstration of how 3D printing is used in the restoration of technical heritage, featuring a Prusa MK4 3D printer. To help the pupils better understand the historical period from which the restored motorcycles originate, they also watched a scene from the classic Laurel and Hardy film Hog Wild (1930), (available from: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kaRaGAf8XE).
The programme was prepared and presented by Bc. Daniel Škop, a Master's degree student in the Mechanical Engineering programme, specializing in Technical Diagnostics, Repair and Maintenance.
