The Restoration Workshop of VSB-TUO has already repaired the fourth motorcycle

In the Restoration Workshop, operating under the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering VSB-TUO, this time managed to restore a  ČZ 150c motorcycle - another bike from the collection of the Museum of the Nový Jičín Region. This model was produced by Česká zbrojovka Strakonice between 1950 and 1953. "It used to be a very popular, reliable bike with great riding features. That's why more than a hundred thousand were produced," says Mr Lukáš Kudrna, Head of the Restoration Workshop. This specific one, which was restored at VSB-TUO, comes from the first year of production of these motorcycles (from 1950).

"Our decision to contribute to the establishment of the Restoration Workshop is proving to be very beneficial even after four years of its existence. I am pleased that we have also fulfilled the wishes of Mr Rybička, who donated a valuable collection of historical motorcycles to the region. A place was created at VSB-TUO where young technicians learn to take care of historical machines by learning from experts. Thanks to this, we preserve the historical value of the machines, which also become more attractive and valuable through restoration interventions. The Moravian-Silesian Region offers a wide range of technical monuments and attractions, including the collection of motorcycles, which was opened to the public by the Regional Museum of the Nový Jičín Region. People have the opportunity to see a piece of technical history," says Jan Krkoška, former deputy governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region for Regional Development and Tourism.

After the motorcycle from the first half of the 1950s, one older one will now be restored, namely a Jawa 500 OHV produced in 1929–1933. It is interesting that this model, which was the very first from the production of Zbrojovka by František Janeček, is connected with the history of the world-famous name Jawa. "The motorcycle was originally manufactured by the German company Wanderer, from which František Janeček's Zbrojovka company purchased a license. The legendary name Jawa was created by combining the first two letters of the words Janeček and Wanderer after the production was taken over by the Czechs. And the Wanderer K500 became the Jawa 500 OHV,“ Kudrna explains the circumstances associated with the production of the popular model, which the company has improved over time and changed in terms of its driving features and appearance.

The Restoration Workshop was established at VSB-Technical University of Ostrava in 2019, with the support of the Moravian-Silesian Region. After the Jawa 250, Jawa 250sv and Indian Scout 37 models, a ČZ 150c motorcycle was restored this year. The Restoration Workshop aims to increase the value of its valuable collection using sensitive modifications with the help of modern technologies, such as reverse engineering, and at the same time to involve VSB-TUO students in the process of restoration.
