After the success of the first seminar in 2022, its participants recommended continuing with a similar format in the following years, organizing meetings of experts from the field of the operation and maintenance of technical monuments. In 2023, the staff of the Restoration Workshop from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, VSB - Technical University of Ostrava again took an active role in this event, as well as a representative of Tatra Trucks a.s., and also the management of the National Technical Museum in Prague.
After the first year, which took place in the mountain environment of the Beskydy Mountains, the organizers decided to take advantage of the offer made by co-organizers from the National Technical Museum in Prague and organize the seminar there. As it turned out later, it was the right decision and the NTM environment itself gave the seminar its due respect. Among other things, the participants also appreciated the opportunity to visit the museum's collections in the evening and have informal discussions directly at the displayed technical exhibits.
During the seminar, a total of eleven papers were presented and representatives of the National Technical Museum in Prague, the Technical Museum in Brno, ECORRA s.r.o. in Kopřivnice, the Museum of the Nový Jičín Region (Tatra Museum) and the Restoration Workshop of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Technical University of Ostrava took turns at the lectern. To give you an idea of the content of the seminar, we have selected a number of presented topics, for example: Škoda Sentinel - the sorrows and pleasures of operating a steam truck, Automatic transmission and its role in history - from a car to a tank, The restoration of Jawa type 353 in section, Examples of vehicle restoration …
In addition to the already mentioned evening tours of the collections of the National Technical Museum in Prague, the imaginary significant icing on the cake of this year's seminar was also Friday's excursion to the NTM depository in Čelákovice. But the very highlight of the whole seminar was the premiere of a restored Tatra 77 vehicle from the NTM collections. It is a National Cultural Monument, on which professional work was carried out by the company ECORRA s.r.o. from Kopřivnice.
And what is the main conclusion and evaluation of the 2nd year of the seminar "The Operation and Maintenance of Technical Monuments"? It was a truly beautiful event, and all participants expressed their belief that a new tradition has been established with the next seminar taking place next year.
